This deep freezer is used to keep frozen blood components at a stable, validated low temperature until they are required for patient care. It is especially important for plasma-based components, because the cold chain helps preserve clinically important clotting factors. A blood bank refrigerator is designed specifically for the controlled storage of whole blood and red-cell components. Unlike a domestic refrigerator, it is built to maintain a narrow temperature range, provide uniform cooling and alert staff if the temperature moves outside the accepted limit. This allows blood units to remain properly stored while they are awaiting compatibility testing, issue or transfusion.

The plasma expressor applies gentle, even pressure to a centrifuged blood bag so that plasma can be transferred into a connected satellite bag without disturbing the packed red cells. The ELISA plate reader measures the colour intensity produced in microplate wells after an ELISA reaction. The optical reading is converted into numerical results and interpreted with the approved kit controls and cut-off values. During blood donation, this monitor weighs the collection bag continuously and gently mixes the blood with anticoagulant. It helps staff collect the planned volume, observe the flow and stop the process when the target is reached.
